1,000 Vauxhall employees in jeopardy over planned cuts
Many General Motors workers at the company's Vauxhall outpost are nervously awaiting their fate, as planned trimming of Astra production looks like it will endanger 1,000 jobs. The company's Ellesmere Port facility (Cheshire) is expected to absorb the losses, in the latest blow to the British auto industry.
Meetings with local union representation are planned, as are visits by various government officials, but the situation appears to look rather dire for the plant's workers.
