Feds to require stronger roofs

The federal government will tighten the roof-strength requirements for passenger vehicles in the next few weeks, with a proposed rule that would require the roof to withstand a load equal to 2.5 times that of the vehicle. The current standard calls for an overload of only 1.5 times the vehicle weight, which is viewed by many as inadequate. This stricter rule would also apply to trucks weighing over 6,000 lbs, which are currently exempt from this federal regulation.. As was stated here about two months ago, there would still be no requirement to change the angle at which the overload is applied, or to perform dynamic testing.
