Mazda5 recalled, production halted worldwide
AutoWeek
reports
that Mazda Motor has stopped production of the '06 Mazda5 and has recalled 2,700 of the minivans in North America because of exhaust system-related fires. The cause of the problem is unknown at present.
Dealers have stopped sales of the vehicle, and customers have been asked to return their cars immediately. Replacement
vehicles will be provided to Mazda5 owners, who are expected to be without their cars for at least 30 days.
Recalls have not yet been issued in Japan or Europe, where the cars have different engine specs and ECUs. Although, if
the source of the problem is "unknown," you'd think Mazda would play it safe. We'll see.
