Introduced as one of the many "concepts" Mazda trotted out for the 2007 Tokyo Auto Salon, the Roadster Mazdaspeed M'z Tune has shed that part of its moniker and is now available through Mazda's Japanese stores as of April 6. A product of Mazda E&T (Engineering & Technology), the M'z tune sheds its open-spoke 5-star wheels and fender-mounted side extractor vents in the transition from concept to production vehicle. 10-spoke alloys and a regular, vent-free fender appear on the customer cars, and the concept's Mazdaspeed badging is carried through.

The car begins its life as a 6-speed manual-equipped Roadster RS soft-top, which E&T uses as the building block upon which to create the sporty-minded M'z Tune. A revised ECU perks things up under the hood, and the car's suspension is the recipient of tweaks aplenty to dial the Roadster's already capable handling characteristics to a higher level. These include height-adjustable Bilstein shocks, Mazdaspeed sport springs, Mazdaspeed brake pads, and a full Mazdaspeed aero package.

In addition to the 2.0L engine's reprogramming, a new flywheel is fitted, and breathing is improved thanks to changes to the intake and a new sport exhaust system. Low to midrange power is improved, though no specific numbers are given (at least we weren't able to glean any from the translated Japanese press release). Inside, new sport seats are the centerpieces of the black interior, which also features accent bits like Mazdaspeed scuff panels in the doorsills and a similarly-branded shift knob. The only exterior color offered is metallic silver, and the Roadster Mazdaspeed M'z Tune carries a home-market price tag of ¥3,150,000 (which directly translates to around $26,486 USD).
