Alabamans love trucks
What is it about paying $2.50 a gallon to haul five thousand pounds of rollover prone SUV (kudos to you if you're into that sort of thing) that appeals to Americans? While people in other parts of the world are looking to smaller cars that move more people, SUV registrations in Alabama have risen 79% between 1997 and 2002. The reason? Women with kids want to lose the soccer-mom-with-a-minivan look. The numbers? 450,000 SUV registrations and nearly a million pickup registrations - three quarters of which are used for personal transportation rather than business.
