August best month ever for hybrids; 100,000 sold by Honda to date

As of the end of August, Honda has sold 100,000 of its hybrid models in the U.S. The first Honda hybrid was the two-door Insight that debuted in 1999. The milestone mark includes sales of the Insight, Civic Hybrid and Accord Hybrid through August 31st. This announcement comes hot on the heels of hybrid sales for the month of August that saw the best month ever for the Civic Hybrid, which jumped to 4,146 units, up from 1,816 units in 2004 and 2,329 in July 2005. Total hybrid sales in the U.S. hit a new record in the month of August with 23,307 units and some good news for Ford – the Escape Hybrid now accounts for nearly 10% of all Escapes sold. It will be interesting to see in the coming year if the all-new Civic Hybrid (shown) grows the segment at an even faster pace.
