Autoblog Tuner Tuesdays: More Mazdaspeed 6 goodness
The folks at Sport Compact Car gets their mitts on what seems to be Mazda's
most anticipated release as of late since the oil-consuming-fuel-sucking-puppy-killing RX8 (relax I'm kidding). SCC is
quick to reveal a few interesting tidbits. The 2.3L turbo 4 (produced jointly by Mazda and Ford) runs 15.6 lbs of
boost via a Hitachi turbocharger and a 9.7:1 compression ratio. Combine these numbers with the flow
hampered top mounted intercooler which sits right atop the valvecover and it would normally make the perfect
recipe for disaster on crappy US petrol except for the fact that Mazda states that the 6's direct injection
setup reduces intake charge temperatures. Mazda isn't neccessarily targeting the EVO/STi niche, but the healthy
amount of displacement should lend itself nicely to some proper aftermarket warranty voiding..er..tuning.
