Tire prices rise in-step with oil

Since oil is a large portion of tire production costs, it shouldn't come as any surprise that the black rubber donuts are getting more expensive lately. Goodyear claims that a $1 increase in the per-barrel price of oil causes a $20M hit to their bottom line, so they've announced a price increase of 5-8%. Tire costs really aren't all significant in the grand scheme of auto ownership, but the fact that it's such a large one-time expense tends to make people take notice. Just don't go cheap on new skins for your vehicle, OK? There is no single better place to spend money on your vehicle. It always pains me to see some low-buck hockey pucks on a $30,000 car.
