Tires again a factor as Montoya wins Italian GP

Highs and lows for Team McLaren as Juan Pablo Montoya won yesterday's Italian GP, but Kimi Raikkonen lost ground to Fernando Alonso in the driver's championship and Renault solidified its lead in the constructor's championship with a double podium finish.

Raikonnen nearly pulled off a stunning upset, running a 1-stop fuel strategy from 11th place on the grid, only to be forced into an unscheduled pitstop to replace a failing left rear tire.

Montoya had an identical tire problem late in the race, but stayed out to secure the win. This is the second race in a row where a team's car setup led to tire failures, with WilliamsF1 forced to retire both cars in Turkey.

Coincidentally, in a Saturday interview at Monza, Fiat and Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo took a shot at the one set of tires per race rule that ultimately ruined Raikkonen's chances on Sunday.
