Toyota getting spanked in China
Toyota may be making a run at ruling the world, but they're having problems attacking the Chinese market. Hyundai is outselling Toyota by about three-to-one in the market, while GM is selling about six vehicles for every one sold by Toyota. GM and Hyundai both decided to partner-up with only one Chinese automaker, while Toyota and the struggling VW each went with two partners. That is said to cause confusion and dilute efforts, both of which are bad when trying to penetrate a foreign market. China, however, is getting close to implementing a significant fuel tax, and Toyota is not coincidentally planning to start production of its Prius hybrid in China later this year. Will this allow the company to reproduce the sort of success it had in entering the US market? We'll get back to you with an answer on that in, oh, another decade or so.
