Toyota passes 1.55 million mark for North American production
The big T announced yesterday that its total
production output in North American during 2005 was 1,558,828 vehicles and 1,295,227 engines. Both represent record
production levels for the company, which began manufacturing here back in 1985.The largest chunk of the 1.55 million vehicles produced in North America by Toyota last year was comprised of the Camry, of which 356,497 units were built. The Tacoma played the smallest part with only 23,670 units being assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing de Baja California.
Toyota has become a literal Japanese juggernaut and projects that by 2008 it will have the capacity in North America to build 1.81 million vehicles, 1.44 million engines and 600,000 automatic transmissions. The company directly employs 38,000 workers and pumps $26 billion into purchasing parts, materials, goods and services from North American suppliers.
