Toyota to recall Land Cruiser Prado
Toyota spokesperson Paul Nolasco confirmed reports that Toyota Motor Corp. will be issuing a recall of approximately 210,000 of its Land Cruiser Prado worldwide. The recall was issued because a crack may potentially appear in the vehicle's rear axle while the SUV is driven at high speed on winding roads. Three incidents have been attributed to the problem but there have been no serious injuries.
Approximately 100,000 SUVs will be recalled in Japan while the rest from Australia, China, and Europe. Affected Prados were built between 1996 through 1999. The Land Cruiser Prado or models based on the SUV are not sold in the U.S.

UPDATE: Several readers have pointed out that the Toyota FJ Cruiser, 4Runner, and Lexus GX470 may be based on the Land Cruiser Prado. According to the original article, The Prado is not sold in North America, nor are any Land Cruisers based on the Prado model.
None of the above mentioned vehicles are Land Cruisers though they may share structure or design with the Prado. Autoblog will seek to contact a Toyota representative for clarification.
