Troubled Mitsubishi unable to rally WRC team for 2006
In yet another example of Mitsubishi's fervor to cut costs, the company has announced that it will not compete in the World Rally Championship in 2006. In an effort to focus on its MMRP ('Mitsubishi Motors Revitalization Plan'), the company is withdrawing from the WRC until at least 2008, when (or perhaps, 'if') the company's three- year restructuring plan is completed.
For fans of driving off-road sideways in a hot fuss, all is not lost, however. Mitsu will not suspend their efforts in the Dakar Rally, and there is always the possibility that a privateer or two might fill the void.
The WRC has taken its share of knocks lately, with Czech automaker Skoda announcing that it would not field an official team in 2006 just earlier this month.
