Utah Transit switching to biodiesel
Willie Nelson's favorite fuel, biodiesel, wins another transit
convert. The Utah Transit Authority, the 37th largest transit fleet in the U.S. with 508 vehicles, will be shifting to
B20 biodiesel as soon as early next year if a final purchase agreement for the biodiesel can be negotiated.
The agency says it should save 12 to 15 cents per gallon on its fuel costs. Even a 10 cent per gallon savings would account for more than $750,000 in annual savings. The switch was spurred by the increased availability of the B20 and a concern that other alternative fuels, such as hydrogen fuel cells, may be as far as two decades away.
