Volvo commercial trucks to launch hybrid engine in 2009Stockholm-based AB Volvo is on course to launch a hybrid engine for commercial trucks in 2009, according to an AP report. The engine is expected to decrease fuel consumption by 35-percent, benefit from regenerative braking, and cut emissions and noise. Like many passenger vehicle hybrid engines, the engine is able to shut down to electric-only in city driving where there are lots of starts and stops. Between uses in buses, trucks and heavy machinery, annual sales are slated to level out at around 10,000 a year.
