When gearheads, geeks, and green meet
Remember those gearheads who modified a Prius so it could
average 100 miles per gallon by making better use of its
batteries? Well, their discoveries have gone beyond the
garage and into several new companies. CalCars and EDdrive have made available the modification kits for the Prius to
the public. The Advanced Hybrid Vehicle Development Consortium, a group
of automotive components suppliers, are developing a prototype vehicle utilizing not only the new batteries and motors
but new ultracapacitors that may provide torque matching, if not exceeding, that of diesel engines.
Forget the Prius. Looks like gearheads, (techno)geeks, and environmentalists (green) are the real hybrid.
