Die siebte Generation SL wird nicht anders im Geist von seinen Vorfahren, nach Martin Dierks, SL Produkt-Manager für Mercedes-Benz. Dierks stellt fest, dass mehr als 635.000 ALs verkauft worden sind, seit der ersten Version Gullwing. Die nordamerikanischen Markt für mehr als 50 Prozent der weltweiten Verkäufe SL, und Mercedes ist der Auffassung, die Luxus-Roadster-Segment sollte auch weiterhin stetiges Wachstum und Expansion bis mindestens 2016.
