A 2005 study done by the
U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that more people in the U.S. are talking on their cell phones
while driving than in 2004.
Ten percent of drivers at any given time are talking on their phones, up from eight percent in 2004, with 60 percent of talkers holding the handset up to their ear, and 40 percent using a hands-free device. NHTSA researchers estimated the ages of the people they observed, and assuming they were correct, it would appear that younger drivers are the most talkative age group. Women were also more likely than men to be talking on a cell phone while driving.
